Manufacturing Day 2021

What is Manufacturing Day?

October 1st marks not only the annual Manufacturing Day but also marks the start of a month-long campaign to help showcase the vast range of careers in the manufacturing industry. As the industry continues to evolve, this day provides a unique opportunity for manufacturers like us to come together to help our communities flourish by focusing on the future of Manufacturing and supporting our future generations to learn about the advances being made in the industry.  After all, we have sustained a 55-year legacy of producing cutting-edge and innovative solutions for our customers.  Our passion spans our past, our present, and the future to maintain our contribution to our communities worldwide.

This day was developed to help show the reality of modern Manufacturing and foster future manufacturing careers by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers, and community leaders. As manufacturers seek to fill 4 million high-skill, high-tech, and high-paying jobs over the next decade, Manufacturing Day empowers manufacturers to come together to celebrate their successes as well as collaborate on their collective challenges so they can help their communities and future generations thrive.

Changing the Perception of Manufacturing

The Manufacturing world can be quite stimulating when looked at in its entirety. The idea that there are roles beyond the bench of Manufacturing, the assembly lines, can be hard to visualize. The fact is that the manufacturing world has grown into something so much more significant. The driving force for this growth? Technology has advanced dramatically in the industry over the years – including artificial intelligence and 3-D printing. This industry now calls for engineers, creatives, helpers, marketers, sellers, and think on your feet problem solvers! Incorporating high-tech into Manufacturing requires a variety of skill sets and offers many opportunities for future workers.

Educating the next generation about the evolving need for talent to fill the manufacturing industry is our responsibility as long-standing leaders in the industry.  According to a study by Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute, approximately four million manufacturing jobs may be unfilled in the U.S. due to the skills gap. At Goodway, we constantly seek new talent and skillsets to continue bringing innovation and new ideas into our organization.

What is Goodway Doing to Contribute?

At Goodway, we take our responsibility to the industry very seriously, and we understand that our future and our present talent are one of the same. To keep our pipeline full with future talent, each summer Goodway employs interns throughout all departments. An intern can come on board and experience any Department within our company. We are granting them the chance to find their place inside the manufacturing world. One week can be spent in production, while the next can be learning the ins and outs of the engineering team. By the end of summer, the goal for each intern is to understand the vast options one may have in the forever-evolving manufacturing industry.

Although we pride ourselves in showing the younger generation an insider’s view into our world, we need to recognize skill sets that combine our most tenured employees and our newest employees, which are at the heart of us maintaining 55 innovative years in Manufacturing. We believe that we have been able to retain and attract employees who love to come into work every day by remaining a family-run business, no matter how large we grow. Goodway has grown into a place where everyone knows your name. No matter what department you walkthrough, you can count on open doors, thoughtful conversation, and excitement for what the newest design may be.

What’s Next

This industry is not just a way about making products. It is about helping our customers, who are an extension of our family, solve problems and be more successful. We need to hear our customers’ needs and supply them with innovative solutions. We will be honoring this month by showcasing, in their own words, why manufacturing is an exciting industry to be in and what helps our employees continue to move forward each day.
