How HVAC Professionals Used LinkedIn This Fall
The HVAC Professionals Group at LinkedIn had several interesting discussions over the last 2 months. The groups diverse background provided some strong and valuable opinions.
Top influencer of the week Noriel Ong asked a seemingly simple question about pump positioning in a chilled water loop. This lead to a discussion of the many factors involved.
John Whitney Jr opened a discussion about the costliness of callbacks, and looked for ideas to reduce them. Most responders felt that training, not pressuring technicians to get to the next service call, thorough diagnosis, and good communication with the customer were the keys to this issue.
Trish Holder asked the men of the group about how they communicate with female homeowners. The consensus was that women needed to be treated the same as men and with respect to their technical knowledge, especially since in the residential market the majority of the time the wife is the one the technician comes in contact with.
By far the longest running thread was from Bert Morgan whose thread has now run for over a month. Bert stated that he believed that R22 refrigerant was actually a more environmentally friendly product than R410a. This debate shows no sign of slowing down as over 181 comments have been logged, reviewing the merits of Propane as a refrigerant, if the Montreal Protocols are effective, whether tighter controls on refrigerant management are in order, and how much of R410a’s efficiency gains are due to the refrigerant and how much is due to technological advances that would also benefit R-22.
Although these discussions are lively and included strong opinions, the group maintains professionalism laced with a sense of camaraderie.
