Bedbug Epidemic, New Early Warning System Highlighted on Shark Tank

On a recent episode of Shark Tank one of the businesses being pitched, BuggyBeds, addressed an important issue we’ve discussed in the past: bedbugs. In case you haven’t heard about Shark Tank, it’s an ABC reality TV series where budding entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to potential investors, known as “sharks.”

And think about this stat – just one twin bed can contain thousands or even hundreds of thousands of bedbugs, which feed on humans and can result in hundreds of bites. One female can lay up to 500 eggs, according to Veronica Perlongo, the other entrepreneur behind BuggyBeds.

To make matters worse, you can have bedbugs and not even know it. Currently over 60% of households have known bedbug infestations, according to the BuggyBeds website.

The BuggyBeds product is a detection glue trap that lures and traps bed bugs, and it can be used in both homes and businesses. More and more attention is being paid to the bedbug problem. And products like BuggyBeds are designed to alert you to a bedbug problem, but they don’t get rid of infestations.

If you’ll recall, we talked about bedbugs earlier this year in our post, Green Cleaning: Using Steam to Kill Germs and Bed Bugs.

In that post, we highlighted dry vapor steam cleaning as an effective method to kill bedbugs. Dry vapor steam cleaners use high-temperature, high-pressure steam.

The vapor steam particles can reach into even the smallest spaces on mattresses, upholstery, bedding and furniture. The high-temperature steam kills bedbugs and their eggs.

But because the steam has a low-moisture content, it doesn’t soak into soft goods, leaving them relatively dry. And that means you don’t have to worry about mold growth. The higher the output temperature, the more effective the steam is at killing bedbugs.

California’s Contra Costa Health Services recommends using a steam cleaner with a high boiler temperature of about 300 degrees Fahrenheit when dealing with a bedbug infestation, meaning the output temperature should be at least 180 degrees.

Goodway’s selection of dry vapor steam cleaners offer advanced technologies to help you get rid of your bedbug infestation.

Our various models include our backpack model GVC-BP-1700 and our floor model GVC-1750V. Both offer high volumes of high-heat steam that can successfully kill bedbugs as well as sanitize and remove dirt, grime, viruses, bacteria, allergens, mold and mildew.
