A major piece of building maintenance industry news comes from Plant Services, which reports that CWorks, the Malaysia-based company specializing in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), convened a ground-breaking international conference of facility managers in June.
In 2008, Plant Services says, CWorks came up with the idea of “Holding an international conference to honor the facility management profession and to expose their clients to best practices of facility management as told by some of the top experts in the world.” This year, after much arduous planning, they implemented the idea, and ended up drawing speakers with major industry credentials from all across the globe (North America, China, the Middle East, Australia) and more than 200 participants from Asia Pacific.
Abdul Rani Achmed, the CEO of CWorks, said in his address to the attendees, “Behind every architectural marvel, there is a facility manager. This manager is truly the unsung hero. Facility managers do not fix, they maintain. They do not clean; they keep it clean. They might not be firefighters fighting fires, but they are surely saving lives by preventing fires. By organizing this conference, we hope to honor you – the heroes.”
